Patterns can be understood.
They can also be experienced.

Most of us have patterns in relationships that we understand intellectually but still find ourselves repeating.

We may pull away when someone gets too close. Stay too long in relationships that aren’t working. Find ourselves wanting approval from people we don’t particularly like. Feel lonely in a room full of people. Avoid conflict until resentment takes its place. Or know exactly what we should do, while continuing to do something else.

Individual therapy gives us a place to talk about these patterns.

Group therapy gives us a place to experience them as they happen.

Why group?

A small social world.

Over time, the ways we relate outside the room begin to appear inside it: how we seek closeness, how we protect ourselves, what we reveal and conceal, whom we’re drawn to, whom we distrust, and how we respond to attention, disappointment, disagreement, affection, silence, and being seen.

Rather than simply talking about relationships elsewhere, the group gives us an opportunity to become curious about what is happening between us in the present moment.

There is no curriculum and no expectation that you arrive with a particular topic each week. We talk. We notice what happens. We become interested in the moments that might ordinarily pass unnoticed.

Gradually, patterns that once felt automatic can become something we have more freedom around.

Who it’s for

Adults interested in understanding themselves more deeply.

You do not need to be in crisis, have a particular diagnosis, or consider yourself someone who is “good at groups.” In fact, uncertainty about groups can itself be interesting.

  • Why do I keep ending up in the same kinds of relationships?
  • Why can intimacy feel wonderful at one moment and uncomfortable the next?
  • Why is it difficult to say what I actually want?
  • Why do I sometimes feel separate from people even when I’m close to them?
  • What is it like for other people to actually be in a relationship with me?

You don’t need to arrive knowing the answers. That’s part of what the group is for.

Because this is an ongoing process group rather than a class or drop-in group, members make a commitment to attend consistently. New members may join when space becomes available.

Before joining

We’ll meet for two full individual sessions.

These meetings give us time to understand what brings you to group therapy, what you hope to change, and what support you may need going in. They also help us assess whether this particular group feels like a good fit and give you space to meet me and ask questions before deciding whether to participate.
